Week 10: Donald Trump Reporting

Headline: Trump Walks Off Stage, 10 protesters later

Donald Trump walked off the stage, abruptly ending his speech to supporters in Raleigh, NC after 10 different protesters..yes, 10, interrupted his speech. Ironically enough, Trump criticized the media for making a big deal out of one protester interrupting one of his previous speeches, and after noting that, Trump was then interrupted by 9 more (different) protesters over the course of his speech. How does that song go, "and isn't it ironic...don't you think?"

Polls: According to CNN, Trump holds a commanding lead

The latest CNN poll has put Donald Trump at 36%, a whopping 20-points ahead of second place Ted Cruz. Interestingly enough, Trump has surged in popularity following the Paris and San Bernardino terrorist attacks. This may have something to do with his aggressive stance on foreign policy.

Future Challenges

As this is my last Trump post for this class, I'm going to talk about Trump's challenges not just for this week, but rather the challenges he will face all the way until November 2016. Actually, it's a very simple challenge, but not an easy one by any means. Appealing to the majority of American voters. Through all the media and all the attention, this ultimately what Trump will need if he wants to win the 2016 general election. Unless of course, technically speaking, we're in for another Bush vs. Gore 2000 election where in reality, George Bush needed the majority of the electorate, not the majority of American votes.

Trump ends his speech after several protest interruptions

Donald Trump was at a support rally in Raleigh, North Carolina where he was repeatedly interrupted and after the tenth interruption he abruptly ended his speech and decided to call it a night. This was after he said the media is going to twist his words about how one protester will shout out and the media will make it into a dishonest storm. The question many are wondering is why are these people showing up to Trump support rally's to protest, it seems incredibly disrespectful but with 20% lead over all the other GOP candidates it of course comes with its fair share of haters

Is Donald Trump a bigot and racist?

News: People are starting to get a negative vibe from Donald Trump, is he right for president of America? Is he too strong on his opinions? Washington Post seems to say so.
Some will think this an outrageous label to apply to the frontrunner for a major party’s presidential nomination. Ordinarily, I would agree that name-calling is part of what’s wrong with our politics.

Donald Trump opens 'yuge' lead over GOP field in CNN/ORC national poll

News: Donald Trump continues to advance in the GOP votes. Is this all a competition to him?
Donald Trump is the top choice of more than one out of every three Republican and Republican-leaning registered voters, according to the results of a new CNN/ORC poll released Friday. And it's not even close — at 36 percent, Trump's closest competitor for the GOP presidential nomination is Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, at 16 percent.

CNN/ORC Poll: Trump alone at the top again

(CNN)Donald Trump is once again alone at the top of the Republican field, according to the latest CNN/ORC Poll, with 36% of registered Republicans and Republican-leaning independents behind him, while his nearest competitor trails by 20 points.
Three candidates cluster behind Trump in the mid-teens, including Texas Sen. Ted Cruz at 16%, former neurosurgeon Ben Carson at 14% and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio at 12%. All other candidates have the support of less than 5% of GOP voters in the race for the Republican Party's nomination for president.
Carson (down 8 points since October), former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (down 5 points to 3%) and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul (down 4 points to 1%) have lost the most ground since the last CNN/ORC poll, conducted in mid-October.
Cruz (up 12 points) and Trump (up 9 points) are the greatest beneficiaries of those declines. Rubio is also up slightly, gaining 4 points -- an increase within the poll's margin of sampling error -- since the last CNN/ORC poll.

Donald Trump unveils more diplomatic side in ejecting rally protestor

News: His way of getting towards the crowd and showing that he can get make a change and be more calm and appeal to the audience.
Sarasota, Florida (CNN)Donald Trump showed a more diplomatic side Saturday as a protestor was ejected from a spirited rally he held in Florida, where he otherwise minced no words in going after his opponents.
Speaking in Sarasota, Florida, the Republican presidential candidate was interrupted briefly by a protestor who shouted during the opening moments of his remarks. The mogul looked on calmly from the podium as security escorted the protesters out.
"Be nice to the person," Trump told the crowd. "Don't hurt the person. ... Please nicely escort the person out."
The calm handling of the disruption was a change from last Saturday's campaign rally in Alabama, where a Black Lives Matter protestor was punched and kicked repeatedly by audience members when he interrupted the rally. After the incident, Trump suggested the man "should have been roughed up."

Donald Trump's denial challenged by reporter

The New York Times is angry that Donald Trump appeared to mock one of its reporters who has a physical disability, but the candidate denied Thursday that he was mimicking the reporter.
Trump accused the reporter of "using his disability to grandstand."
Trump waved his arms in an awkward manner at a rally in South Carolina Tuesday night while talking about a comment made by Serge Kovaleski. Kovaleski has a chronic condition called arthrogryposis, which limits the movement of his arms.
The New York Times was offended. "We find it's outrageous that he would ridicule the appearance of one of our reporters," a spokesperson told CNNMoney.
Kovaleski, who had previously worked at the Washington Post and the New York Daily News, had covered Trump many times in New York.
Trump, however, said he did not know Kovaleski.

      Week 9: Donald Trump Reporting

Headline: Is Donald Trump a fascist?

Some conservatives are calling Trump's latest remarks fascist after Trump called for more surveillance of Muslim-Americans following the terrorist attacks in Paris. Recently, Trump has made several remarks regarding Muslims, including calling for mosques to be closed, Muslims to have to wear I.D.'s, as well as increased surveillance on Muslims living in the United States. Trump's remarks haven't just angered Muslims, his remarks have also angered some conservatives for a couple of reasons. One, some conservatives believe in respecting the privacy of Americans, and two, some conservatives believe that Trump is ruining the image of the GOP. As for now, Trump still leads the polls, so while many conservatives seem to not like Trump, there's a measurable amount of Republicans who do.

Polls: Trump holds lead, but many journalists skeptical

According to Real Clear Politics, Donald Trump holds a 7.7 point lead over second-place Ben Carson. Trump polls at 27.5, while Carson stands at 19.8 points. However, I've come across several stories on the internet proclaiming that Trump's lead will be temporary, and that the media should "stop making a big deal" about Trump polling in first. The online journal "Salon" even went as far as to say Trump has been polling well due to support from xenophobic sections of Republican voters.
The links to some of the reports are provided below. However, just as a warning, many online stories have a bias towards one political party or the other, and sometimes these biases can corrupt reporting. Anyways, here are some of the stories.

New Positions: "Donald Trump's horrifying words about Muslims" -CNN

As mentioned earlier, Trump's new positions mainly focus on targeting Muslims. Here's a link to a CNN story.
      Link: http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/20/opinions/obeidallah-trump-anti-muslim/

      Future Challenges:

Trump's going to have to appeal more towards Republicans who aren't driven by hate. If he wants the primary nomination, he'll need more than 20-25% of Republican support, especially considering that the GOP administrators don't exactly love him. Many young people are comparing Trump's recent statements about Muslims to tactics used by Hitler. It'll be a challenge for Trump to dial down the fire while convincing a larger pool of Americans that he's truly the correct candidate for president come November 2016.

Donald Trump Tells Black Lives Matter To Get the Hell Out

New shocking news of a short clip of Donald Trump yelling at the audience and then telling security to take people out of this Massive Rally. Maybe Donald Trump can only take in so much.

Donald Trump Is Actually a Moderate Republican

Yes, Trump is unacceptable to a large share of Republican voters. Yes, he has high unfavorables. But his beliefs—and especially those on immigration—draw Republicans from all sides of the party. Let’s put it this way: If Trump were more polished, if he looked and sounded more like Rubio and Bush, we would see him, correctly, as a mainstream candidate for president. Set aside his affect, and Trump sits at the center of the GOP, and that is why he’s winning.

Donald Trump to Force Muslims to Register

Trump announced that he would force all muslims to register as they enter the country. Trump said that Muslims would have many places that the would be able to register but they have to be managed. Later when asked how it differs from Nazi Germany making all Jews register Donald simply stated "you tell me." Democrats were quick to denounce what Trump said Martin O'Malley said "How is that all american." I agree with O'Malley this is an outrageous policy Trump has proposed. This is discrimination at its finest and it is not the american way.

New Poll: Since the Terror Attacks in Paris

Since the terror attacks in Paris, American voters have increasingly grown security concerns. A new poll conducted by Morning Consult say that 22 percent of voters say security issues are at the top of their minds when they think about national elections, up five points from the previous week and higher than any other issue besides the economy.

Republicans enjoy a clear advantage among voters who say security issues are their top concern; among those voters, 53 percent say they would cast a ballot for a generic Republican candidate, compared with just 27 percent who would vote for a Democratic candidate.

News for Trump: Donald Trump continues to lead the Republican presidential field by a wide margin, after seeing his support dip in late October. Trump leads with 38 percent of the vote, twice the level of support of his nearest competitor, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who takes 19 percent.

      Week 8: Donald Trump Reporting

      Newsworthy Moment:

Trump proclaims we have "absolutely no choice" but to close down Mosques in the U.S.

Today, Wednesday, November 18th, Trump told Sean Hannity of Fox News that we have "absolutely no choice" but to close down Mosques in the United States. Donald Trump made these remarks in response to the recent terrorist attacks in Paris. However, Trump's proposal is in direct conflict with the Bill of Rights, an addition to the Constitution that, funny enough, not only serves as the backbone to our country, but also as a document that Republicans love. The First Amendment reads: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". Therefore, closing down Mosques isn't going to happen, Trump should brush up on his 8th grade history, and Donald should also take a lesson in learning how to treat other people. Blaming (or punishing) all Muslims by closing down their houses of worship for a terrorist attack on the other side of the world that a few people carried out is not only rude and inconsiderate, it's downright stupid.

      Link to Report (The Hill):
      http://thehill.com/policy/national-security/260574-trump-absolutely-no-choice-but-to-close-mosques

Polls: Trump reclaims lead in GOP race

The latest polls show Donald Trump surging ahead of Ben Carson. Carson's scandal regarding the stabbing may play a role in these new numbers. As for now, Trump is playing the comeback kid as he capitalizes on Ben Carson's recent hiccup.

Link (list of recent polls): http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/president/

-Nothing recent in regards to fundraising strength for the Trump campaign, which again, is relatively speaking "self-funded".

      New Positions:

Trump's recent comments regarding Mosques definitely qualifies as a new, or at least publicly new position. However, while this may not necessarily serve as a new position, when Trump was asked about possible VP's to run with, he named Ted Cruz. Think about that. A Trump-Cruz 2016 GOP ticket. It could become a reality in July of next year.

      Link (The Hill-Trump names Cruz):
      http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/260492-trump-names-cruz-when-asked-about-vp-spot

      Future Challenges:

These next few weeks look promising for Mr. Trump. He's played smart politics by calling out Carson on his history and by playing Mr. Nice Guy by not attacking his fellow GOP contenders, at least not as much. I was surprised by this move, I thought it would end up hurting Trump, but it looks like playing nice may have actually helped his campaign. As far as future challenges go, Trump will have to make sure that his GOP rivals don't get in the way. Other than that, I doubt Trump's anti-Islamic comments will hurt him when running as a Republican candidate, and I'm predicting that these next few weeks will be pretty good for the Trump campaign.

      Friday, November 13, 2015

Donald Trump has only kind words for his Rivals

The morning after the fourth Republican debate, Donald Trump is playing Mr. Nice Guy. During an interview on MSNBC's Trump refused multiple opportunities to jab any of his opponents. He said he didn't think anybody did poorly and noted that the GOP candidates were getting better with each passing debate. He also praised Ben Carson saying, I thought he was good. He also stated that his other opponent Jeb Bush "couldn't be nicer". Trump tweeted " Loved doing the debate...won Drudge and all on-line polls! Amazing evening, moderators did an outstanding job." Is it totally weird that Trump is changing into someone nice? Did anyone know that Trump had a nice side? Maybe in his president like manner he will rise in the polls next week, because obviously playing the "bad cop" isn't working out too well anymore.

      Week 7: Donald Trump Reporting

      Headline:

Trump goes on a 95-minute tirade against Ben Carson, which Carson responded to. The campaign is heating up as the Republican front runners battle for control in the GOP race.

      (CNN link):
      http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/12/politics/donald-trump-ben-carson-iowa-belt-stupid/

      Polls:

The polls have seemed to hold steady, at least for Carson and Trump this last week. Here's an interesting article explaining how Trump is coping with no longer holding a large lead in the GOP race:
      (Think Progress): http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2015/11/13/3721985/donald-trump-tirade/

No fundraising news, and even considering his 95-minute tirade in Iowa, Trump has not seemed to declare any new positions.

      Future Challenges:

Trump will have to battle with Ben Carson these next few weeks if he wants to reclaim the top spot in the GOP race. Trump hasn't offered much in the way of new positions, and I think this strategy will serve him well. If Trump wants to win the primary, he has to maintain his "bad boy" presence by not coming across as nice while convincing voters that he still holds integrity. It'll be an interesting few weeks coming up for Trump, and I'm excited to see how things turn out.

SNL and Donald Trump face a HUGE challenge

This week, Donald Trump is hosting "Saturday Night Live," and it's going to be HUGE!! People are saying they are excited to see it because of its many laughs.  It's not going to be a a typical show. Trump's front-runner status is slipping in some national polls, and the last thing he wants to do is hurt his standing with this appearance on SNL. As Trump knows, his opponents and the media will parse not only every sketch he appears in but also likely every line he utters and every move he makes. This will likely affect the sketches that Trump agrees to be a part of on the show.

New!! First Radio Ad Voiceover by Donald Trump!

The most newsworthy and discussed moment for Donald Trump this week is his first radio ad in his campaign. He mentions that "our country is in deep trouble because politicians are all talk and no action"... "My opponents have no experience in creating job or making deals"... "Military will be so strong" and.. "Obamacare is a total disasters and will be repealed with something better"... "I don't disappoint people." He seems to put on a lot of hatred about other candidates and talk poorly about our current president and how he is running the world. He is promising a lot for this countries and says that other politicians are all talk but no action, however, maybe he needs to look at himself as well. As this election is going on,  though Donald Trump is on the top,  he must watch out for the other candidates as well as they are being favored as well.

      Week 6: Donald Trump Reporting

Donald Trump's Twitter Lands Him in Hot Water

Donald Trump retweeted an offensive tweet aimed at Jeb Bush. The tweet contained a picture of Bush standing next to a cactus with the caption "Adios, Jeb". What Trump may or may not have realized is that among that picture were several others, one of which a picture of the Bush family next to a photo-shopped swastika. This time, the campaign is not blaming an intern for the retweet, and the retweet was removed from Twitter.

Trump Officially Loses Lead in GOP Polls

As of today, the Real Clear Politics polling average shows Trump in second place behind Ben Carson. Trump lost his lead in Iowa, and today (November 4th) marks the first time that Trump has not only lost his first-place grip on the national GOP rankings in some polls, but the national average from Real Clear Politics, a widely trusted news service that averages various polls during the primary election season.

      Source (Business Insider):

      http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/us/2016_republican_presidential_nomination-3823.html#polls

No news in regards to fundraising or new positions, but Trump seems to be getting meaner in his attacks against other GOP candidates, as observed in last week's debate.

      Upcoming Challenges:

Trump has a rough road ahead of him these next few weeks. His campaign is in decline, and if he wants to find a way to win over voters and retake the lead in the GOP, then he's going to have to use very different tactics. These new polls show that slandering the other candidates alone will not be enough for Trump to win the GOP nomination.

Donald Trump Wants To Fire The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter

Donald Trump introduces one of his new ideas about defensive policies. He mentions how he wants to get rid and fire the F-35 because during one of the test flights it turned into poor outcome;  he does not want our society to waste any more money, billions he says, on these little things and that "our existing planes are better." However, he also mentions that he wants to have the strongest and best military every during his presidency,  so people are unsure of what Trump really wants and unsure if his decisions are really thought through clearly. As the presidential campaign continues, we see more and more of Trump and figure out his personality and actions.

Carson and Trump have been running consistently neck-and-neck since the start of September -- with other candidates struggling to keep pace. However Donald Trump has been the number one in the polls for the republican party since June. Two polls released Thursday and Friday showed Trump slipping to second place in Iowa with 20% and 19% of support, respectively, while Carson surged to first place with 28% in both polls. Carson won the support of 26% of Republican primary voters, compared to 22% who are backing Trump, according to CBS news/ New York Times. Though within the poll's margin of error, it marks the first time since the billionaire businessman's dominant rise over the summer where he has been bumped from the top spot nationally.

Trump vows to make Mexico pay for "Great Wall"

Donald trump said tonight in the GOP presidential debate that:

"We're going to do a wall; we're going to have a big, fat beautiful door on the wall; we're going to have people come in, but they're going to come in legally."

On top of this Trump said he is going to make the Mexican leaders pay for this wall and that he is going to make sure that people only get into this country legally. Trump even went as far as saying that the Mexican Leaders are 'sharper' than our American leaders. Trump says the wall will keep out the "rapist, and crime comitters" that mexico currently "sends" to the United States.

      Week 5: Donald Trump Reporting

      Newsworthy Moment:

Trump no longer stands atop the national rankings among GOP presidential contenders. According to a CBS News/New York Times poll, Carson holds the support of 26% of GOP voters, compared to Trump who now sits at 22%. While the 4-point difference is between the poll's margin of error, for the first time in nearly 5 months Trump sits at second place in the Republican field while Ben Carson continues to surge. In other news, the Republican field prepares for tomorrow's debate. The debate will be held at the University of Colorado Boulder, and will be televised on CNBC starting at 5pm PT. Trump will have to rile up voters watching at home if he wants to regain some ground in the national poll, and as Trump currently stands in 2nd place, his performance in tomorrow's debate will play a big role in the race for the GOP nomination.

      Story about tomorrow's debate:
      http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2015/10/27/republican-presidential-debate-comes-to-boulder-wednesday/74712458/

      Movement in Polls:

As mentioned earlier, Trump now sits in 2nd place nationally behind Ben Carson in the GOP power rankings. See the first story in this report for more details.

      Fundraising:

No news regarding fundraising this week. Trump continues to claim that he's turning down millions of dollars for his quote "self-funded campaign". "Everybody's offering me money, and I don't want it". Trump said this at a dinner in Massachusetts back in August.

      CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/28/politics/donald-trump-fundraiser-norwood-boston/

      Positions:

No new headline positions from Trump this week. However, since this report is being published on Tuesday, and it's still early in the week, the Trump Team will post any breaking news regarding Trump and any new, loud positions up until Friday night. This being said, Trump may offer a new position in order to seek approval during tomorrow night's debate, but that's just speculation.

      Challenges this Week:

Trump faces two daunting challenges this week. One, impressing voters during tomorrow night's debate, and two, gaining approval these next few days in order to make up ground on the national GOP level. It'll be interesting to see next week's poll results. Will nothing change? Will Carson extend his new found lead, or will Trump gain back ground? We'll have to wait and see what happens next, starting with tomorrow night's Republican debate.

Aversion to Fundraising, Donald Trump Still Rakes in Millions

As the election continues to progress on, one of the main topics that is very high in the elections is towards the strengths and weaknesses of the fundraising in a presidential campaign. Donald Trump is a very wealthy man, but it is seen that he does not contribute to donation as much as the other presidential candidates but instead uses his own money for his own benefits and self-funding himself in this campaign. Yes he is intelligent in using his money to his own benefits but I believe the weakness in him is that people are wanting to see more donations from him because of his wealth.

Super PAC supporting Trump shuts down

A super PAC with ties to Donald Trump's presidential campaign is shutting down in an effort to put an end to building questions about the closeness of the two operations. The "Make America Great Again" super PAC, which had been collecting donations to support Trump's presidential candidacy, will stop its fundraising activity, according to Mike Ciletti, who formed the group in Colorado in July.

Ciletti mentioned, "the focus should be on the issues and candidates." He added, "People are making an issue out of me knowing people on the Trump campaign as somehow that is newsworthy." "Personally I support Mr. Trump, otherwise I would not have started the super PAC." However, to honor Mr. Trump's wishes, Ciletti states, "I am closing my super PAC and will wait for the primary to reach Colorado to have an impact on the race."
Mr. Trump routinely says that he is funding his own race, and that while people are offering him “millions,” he doesn’t want to accept it. In addition to Trump's disavowel, he asked all donations made to them be returned to the donors, and he called on all of the candidates to do the same thing and disavow their super PACs.

      Week 4: Donald Trump Reporting

      Headlines:

      • A tweet mocking Iowans was re-tweeted from the Trump twitter page (try saying that three times fast). Speculation suggests that one of Donald's campaign advisors re-tweeted the tweet, but others claim that Donald Trump's twitter account could have been hacked. Either way, Carson now leads Trump in the polls in the state of Iowa.

      Polls:

      • As mentioned earlier, Carson now leads Trump in the polls in Iowa. However, Trump still seems to hold a strong lead across the GOP-voting nation.

As usual, little news regarding Trump's fundraising as he, or at least he says, is funding his own campaign. Very little new positions offered as well, but I found this interview on CNBC interesting. Trump is very confident going into this election, as he's comparing himself to "Superman".

      Future Challenges:

      • Carson is hot on Trump's heels. If Donald wants to secure the GOP nomination, he's going to have to ensure that he's the #1 Republican candidate heading into 2016.

Donald Trump Leads in Expectations, Shows Strength on Polls

Even though Trump is moving up in the Polls and getting more votes than any other republican candidate he is on thin ice. Roughly equal numbers of leaned Republicans say the more they hear about Trump the less they like him, compared with liking him more.  When Trumps opinions are so straight up and bias, one thing that he can say can change all of his voters opinions about him. If he continues to speak more without a filter he may have to pay for the price, resulting in the change of the percentages in his polls.

      Trump: Bush did 9/11

After being an a twitter war with Jeb Bush, Trump said that George W. Bush is partly to blame because 9/11 happened on his watch and he did not do enough to keep us safe. When swarmed by media Trump was unprecedentedly quiet when being asked several questions by media outlets a strong sway in the opposite direction of Donald who always seems to enjoy going on a tangent and speaking his mind. Marked a "truther" by the white house press secretary of George W. Bush or someone who believes that the government was behind the attacks on September 11th. The backlash did not stop there, Trump was asked if every bad event that has happened during the Obama administration is the presidents fault. Trump failed to answer any of the questions. Trump simply said we "need a leader" something he claims we don't have right now.

      Donald Trump CNN Debate Highlights

Strong Donald Trump demonstrates his strong power and his beliefs in his capabilities of changing this country. He is very confident in his ideas and demonstrates good judgment. However, can be negative towards his other candidates and strongly wants to be correct.

The politically incorrect Donald Trump in politics, creates chaos during interview on Fox News

“He apologized like a little baby, like a disgusting, little, weak, pathetic baby, and that’s the problem with our country.

During an interview on Fox News, Donald Trump makes a very rude and not president like comment. We all know that Donald Trump is not a candidate known for being nice, however many believe that he has crossed the line this week. Trump makes a comment about O'Malley and his way of responding to a comment. O'Malley apologized for using the words "white" during a protest for Black Lives Matter. When Trump heard about this he was overheated and overwhelmed. He argued that black lives matter and so do white lives. "This is a problem with our country". What Trump was referring to was, why is our country so apologetic and that we need to be more straight forward with our words, however many citizens can argue that Trump crossed the line with his comment and that was not political like at all. If Trump wants to continue being high in the polls then he cannot say things like these and many people refer to Trumps speeches as hate speeches, and that's definitely not something that you want potential registered voters  to say about you. But, many citizens do appreciate Trumps honestly and will vote for him because he speaks his mind and won't back down no matter what gets into his way.

      WEEK 3 REPORTING-DONALD TRUMP

      Headlines:

Donald Trump and Ben Carson both filed complaints to CNBC, which hosts the next Republican presidential debate on October 28th. What's strange is that Trump and Carson filed their complaints together under one letter, despite camp Trump and camp Carson being rival campaigns. One of the complaints was that the debate should be shortened to 2 hours, as opposed to the last debate which took nearly 3 hours. Trump even threatened to pull out of the next debate, though some critics argue that this was merely another statement to get the media riled up.

      Polls:

According to the latest poll, Trump leads the GOP at 36%, with Ben Carson trailing in second at 18%. Trump and Carson are the only 2 candidates who have approval percentages in the double-digits. Still, this means that Trump currently holds a whopping 18-point lead over Carson.

No news regarding fundraising or new positions, aside from Trump and Carson trying to "boycott" the next GOP debate.

      Future Challenges:

Despite receiving constant media attention, Trump will have to show in the next few weeks how he's qualified to be president. Debates can bring about major changes in polling, so if Trump wants to hold his lead, he's going to (at least eventually) have to show Americans that he's intelligent enough to serve as commander-in-chief. Also, Trump will have to demonstrate that he can hold his tongue, because if there's any part of Donald Trump that's going to lose him this election, it's his mouth.

      Trump's Campaigning Strategy....
Campaign in Treasure Island Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on Thursday.

As election time draws closer, we are all wondering why we haven't seen Trump's Presidential Election ads on television, or anywhere for that matter. According to recent reporters, like Maggie Haderman, and Bill Barrow, Trump has unlimited FREE media-coverage. Compared to his opponents, this is currently working for Trump, because he is leading the Republican Nomination polls with a +6.0 spread. Since the last filing of Campaign finances Trump has only spent "$2 million of his own money on his self-financed bid for office."(Haderman, P.19) However, according to Barrow, Trump claims that he has several television ads, ready to run "if he has to." Barrow writes "He said he'd initially planned to spend $20 million on advertising by this point, but argued there has been no need; he pointed to free media attention."(Barrow, P.5) Many claim Trump will get southern votes, because this is where voters tend to be more conservative, and most "distrustful" of central government. As the election goes on, Trump will have to soon use those ads, and start putting his campaign fund to use, if he's serious about becoming President. Media coverage alone isn't enough to put him in office, and most of it is slander, so why he hasn't put forth more effort towards campaigning is beyond me.

      Week 2 Reporting-Donald Trump

      In the news:

According to a piece by the New York Times, Trump has been dropping hints on several news media programs regarding how and why he would exit a presidential race. Despite explicitly stating on MSNBC on Friday that he would indefinitley remain in the presidential race, these latest developments as a trend have caught the media's attention. Would Donald Trump consider dropping out of the race as 2016 rolls around? It's not likely, but it's certainly an open possibility.

      Polling:

While Trump has remained fairly neutral in the polls, his lead against Ben Carson is shrinking. Trump and Carson are the only two GOP candidates who have double-digit support, and Carson has been rising in the polls as of recently, largely due to Bush's latest comments regarding the shooting at Umpqua CC.

      Fundraising Strength:

While no major news has developed this week, Trump has raised $1.9 million thus far towards his campaign. This figure is relatively smaller compared to his GOP rivals, however Trump has referenced to funding his own campaign. Trump can financially pull this off, as his net worth is near $10 billion, which is way, way more than anyone else in the field running for president.

      Positions and Challenges:

Trump mentioned to "Face the Nation" (CBS) that he would be "okay" with Paul Ryan becoming house speaker. At the moment, this development means very little considering that Ryan has not completely expressed interest in the job. What is significant is Trump's rivalry with Bush. According to a CNN article, the two candidates could not be further apart. Trump prefers firing up crowds with energy and angry enthusiasm while Bush prefers "civility". I believe in the next few weeks Trump will have a tough time convincing the American voters that he is truly qualified and intelligent enough to serve as president. Firing up crowds in Iowa is a long ways away from respectfully cooperating with other countries in regards to international peace and foreign policy in general, an important duty that a competent president will have to take on if elected.

One of Donald Trumps most controversial positions deals with Immigration

When Donald Trump first announced that he was running for president, he took the stance that all illegal immigrants need to be deported back into Mexico. He also stated that we need to build a big wall resembling the great wall of China, he joked that it would have a door. According to Donald Trump "They're bringing drugs. They are bringing crime, they're rapists." However, immigration has played a big impact in the United States, causing panic among farmers and employers of the illegal aliens. Also, depression of wages may occur and the biggest problem that Trump deems probable is the high levels of crime that is brought by illegals. Even though Trump's views are extreme, one thing is for sure; he has successfully persuaded many Americans to consider the importance of Immigration policy in America.
