Week 8: Donald Trump Reporting

Newsworthy Moment:

Trump proclaims we have "absolutely no choice" but to close down Mosques in the U.S.

Today, Wednesday, November 18th, Trump told Sean Hannity of Fox News that we have "absolutely no choice" but to close down Mosques in the United States. Donald Trump made these remarks in response to the recent terrorist attacks in Paris. However, Trump's proposal is in direct conflict with the Bill of Rights, an addition to the Constitution that, funny enough, not only serves as the backbone to our country, but also as a document that Republicans love. The First Amendment reads: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". Therefore, closing down Mosques isn't going to happen, Trump should brush up on his 8th grade history, and Donald should also take a lesson in learning how to treat other people. Blaming (or punishing) all Muslims by closing down their houses of worship for a terrorist attack on the other side of the world that a few people carried out is not only rude and inconsiderate, it's downright stupid.

Polls: Trump reclaims lead in GOP race

The latest polls show Donald Trump surging ahead of Ben Carson. Carson's scandal regarding the stabbing may play a role in these new numbers. As for now, Trump is playing the comeback kid as he capitalizes on Ben Carson's recent hiccup.

-Nothing recent in regards to fundraising strength for the Trump campaign, which again, is relatively speaking "self-funded".

New Positions:

Trump's recent comments regarding Mosques definitely qualifies as a new, or at least publicly new position. However, while this may not necessarily serve as a new position, when Trump was asked about possible VP's to run with, he named Ted Cruz. Think about that. A Trump-Cruz 2016 GOP ticket. It could become a reality in July of next year.

Future Challenges:

These next few weeks look promising for Mr. Trump. He's played smart politics by calling out Carson on his history and by playing Mr. Nice Guy by not attacking his fellow GOP contenders, at least not as much. I was surprised by this move, I thought it would end up hurting Trump, but it looks like playing nice may have actually helped his campaign. As far as future challenges go, Trump will have to make sure that his GOP rivals don't get in the way. Other than that, I doubt Trump's anti-Islamic comments will hurt him when running as a Republican candidate, and I'm predicting that these next few weeks will be pretty good for the Trump campaign.

  1. Shut down all Mosques? Wow. I feel like Trump is going to create a Coalition of the Willing to combat all the Mexicans and Muslims that dare to encroach on the holy, white, Christian land of the United States of America. This guy is a dangerous man and should not be allowed to speak publicly, much less run for President.

  2. Honestly, Trump seems more like a charicature from an unused Monty Python movie than a presidential candidate. Unbelievable and sad that so much of our country agrees with this guy.
